Open-Source Science (OSSci) is a community initiative at NumFOCUS, the home of leading Open-Source Software for science in general and data science in particular. OSSci is focused on three things: (1) Community Stewardship for OSS projects serving science; (2) mapping all of science areas onto OSS projects used in those areas, prioritizing needs and gaps; (3) resourcing the work required to fill in the gaps. OSSci is cofounded by IBM Research and partners from academia, industry, government, and startups. OSSci operates as a set of interest groups in science verticals (materials, healthcare, climate) and technology horizontals (reproducibility, data formats, scalability).
